The Basset Griffon Vendéen Club Nederland welcomes you to our Club Website
Information about the BGV Club Nederland for our foreign friends

We try inform you as good as we can through this site but if you have any questions about the Club please contact the secretary here..

At the end of 2009 the regulations of the Dutch Kennel Club changed and more breed clubs per breed were allowed. In February 2010 the foundation “Vrienden van de Basset Griffon Vendéen” became a breed club under the name Basset Griffon Vendéen Club Nederland so they can join the Dutch Kennel Club.

The board of the Club hold 7 people all with their own tasks and speciality; look at the organogram to see who is responsable for what. We work with different committees. In the 7 years that the foundation existed we gathered a lot of experience on working with different committee’s and the board has decided to maintain this structure. In the organogram you can see how everything is organized.

The Club is very active on different fields. Here is just a random pick of what we do:

We organize several club walking tours per year; These are social ‘get-togethers’ where people and hounds can enjoy a day out in the most wonderful nature on different places in the Netherlands.
We invite owners to work with their dog either in de obedience field or tracking, trailing and hunting; Therefore we organize trials and training purposes and we have a group of enthusiastic trackinghounds and owners who meet each other on a regular bases.
We organize seminars for grooming; this is not only for the professional groomers but also for the BGV pet-owners. The professional groomers will learn about how the BGV should look like also for show purposes. For the pet owner it is important that they learn how to maintain the rough coat of a BGV. For questions about this subject please contact: activiteiten.
We publish a club magazine under the name “Au Courant” which means “keeping you posted” but also our BGV’s are in French “Chiens Courants” which means Hounds. The word Courant is also old Dutch for ‘newspaper’. The Clubmagazine appears every 2 months and is printed partially in color and partially in black and white. Of course we try to publish everything that concerns our BGV’s. If you want to contribute to our magazine please contact aucourant.

We are already active for 8 years and a lot of breeders joined our club and their numbers are still growing. One of the Club rules is that breeders are NOT allowed to breed more than 4 litters a year so we do not permit commercial breeders. We find that a good health is the basis of the breeding regulation. To find out more about the breeders and the rules go to: breeders.
